In this write-up we're going to show our honest admiration for the Chicago born and Indy raised artist: Marcoo5k's "D.P.W.T".
After a flood of singles that were leading up to his critically adored release: D.P.W.T (Don't Play With That). Marcoo5k follows his city-beloved mantra and tag line "Don't Play With That". He let's us know that he's not one for games with this 7-track hard-hitting project. This could, quite honestly, be the best 20 minutes worth of music you'll ever hear.

He starts off with the perfect tone setting. Projects are typically a hit or a miss depending on the intros capability to reel in a listener. With "90'z Baby" Marcoo wastes NO time informing us on what he represents.
"From the 90s but I rep the 80s like I'm sellin' dope"
If you've heard Marcoo's music prior to this project then you shouldn't be surprised by his upright and militant delivery, which is similar to that of an Army colonel. Of course he comes out strong on a strong instrumental for starters. He has a reputation for having a beat-selection liable for causing you to nod your head relentlessly (excuse the exaggeration). He ends the first track reminding you that hustlers bare no fatigue saying: "Try to run, we gone run you down, won't run outta breath/multiply, we gone knock you off till aint nobody left".

With "I Fuck Wit Dem" he follows up just as well-disciplined over Lil Yatchy's "Count Me In" instrumental. He let's you know he fucks with a lot of different cliques but, he rides beside his own the most. He even want's to see if you'll challenge this sentiment.
"If you think I'm lying test your luck and come and see"
Now we've entered the mantle of the project. With "No Zzzz" Marcoo speaks on the prostration weighing on his mind from stressing dead kin, court cases meant to pull him off track and just life in general. These things are reasons as to why Marcoo isn't sleeping at night. With all these worries on his mind he is sleep deprived, between those worries and his constant grind to make it out.
He puts family first and nightmares of losing them or not providing for them haunts him at night. Leading to his "toss and turn" in bed. His demons try him relentlessly but he is just as persistent with his hustle day by day.
"I'm on a mission, I don't never catch no Zs at night/My health so bad I'm losing weight cause I'm not eating right"
The follow up to "No Zzzz" is "Again Again" where the energy switches up to a more lively essence. He breaks off and loose with no restraints. The entire song is a note at how he has repeated what he's been doing, which going crazy in every way and seeing life shit all over again. Letting his listeners know he might be the one who's blamed again for a murder which was beyond him. How a shorty wants to fuck and suck him "again". As well as how we'll never see him lose again.
"You play with that it ain't no question, I'ma catch a case again."
What's most bold in this song is how he's fearless of what could be. He has no doubt that things will go bad if he's taken lightly.

Without a doubt this is the most heartfelt track on the project. A young man diving into the way he's living his life, where he has to face the lesson of learning by failing. Resurrecting from dark corners and past endeavors to prevail and become the person he is now.
Slinging bars around his pride, and how hurt he was when those he saw as "family" stabbed him in the back. The visuals show him and you can see the genuine feeling on his face from each line.
"That really hurt me inside/that really took all the pride and caused all the pain/Fuck it, it's over/cause bitch I'm a soldier/I took it on the chin and walked through the rain"

As we come towards the unfortunate end to the project we're met with my personal favorite, "2 Crazzy". It's a hard hitting vibe with straight forward lyrics, consisting of how it's silly to test either one of them, how death is the most suitable punishment for anybody acting "dumb" and how they have no problem teaching you or your people a lesson.
"But I guarantee when I go all of my people steppin'/Guarantee, to guarantee, to guarantee shit gone get hectic"
Among many local collaborations, this one is a favorite. When you get two artists who genuinely respect the craft and stand as a martyr..they simply formulate great music. Which is the product that you get with "2 Crazzy".
Also this track is produced by Indy artist/producer "Poindexter" which adds another tone of uniqueness to an already one-of-a-kind record.

With the outro "Miked Up!" he sends us off over a DJ Mustard produced instrumental that we all know too well. With his twist on Ella Mai's "Boo'd Up" he speaks to his unknown significant other. Reminding her how genuine his affection is and how he's willing to go to war for her at all costs.
"Don't nobody get me high like you because you heaven sent"
He still keeps the Ella Mai chorus though, which is a smooth move. Showing how he wants to keep the mood the same, just from a different perspective. The perfect way to cap off a project.
Overall, I'm over-satisfied and beyond content with this project. As expected, it gets tons of love from Indianapolis music critics/fans. The honesty, the heart, the untamed savage manner in which Marcoo5k proposes this release makes everyone happy. It's a pivitol piece for him as a progressively growing artist AND man.
What's also impressive is his impact through word of mouth. How well he's branded his self which is in part to his manager Kia. Being under her wing allows him creative rights and an unshackled ability to be original, meanwhile being disciplined enough to know what's the best thing to do as an artist. He has a bullish work ethic and even a blind man can see he's a hard worker and with this release, we're all anxious to hear his next project in the works "T.I.O.W" (Till itz Ova Wit).
